DECEMBER 2017 – GRADUATE SCHOOL.
Soumili S. is an engineering student who came to us from India.
When she first contacted us, she had just passed her GRE and her TOEFL was only 2 weeks away!
She told us that she didn’t do as well on the GRE as she had hoped. And she was feeling depressed and unsure of how to approach the TOEFL…
Soumili’s challenge was that she only had a couple weeks to prepare for the TOEFL. And she was still feeling doubtful because of how she performed on her GRE.
She had heard of NoteFull through word of mouth, and started going through our free YouTube videos to start. Then she reached out to us to see what the best course of action would be given her limited amount of time…
“I mentioned that my exam was only two weeks away, and I wanted to know whether it was worth it to register for the Complete TOEFL Mastery program. Within an hour I had received an email from Nayyer, reassuring me that as long as I had a couple of hours per day, I would gain valuable information from the program. And even if I didn’t finish it, it would boost my score. So I went ahead and bought it.”
Soumili quickly found that the program gave her direction on how to improve in the areas where she had the most trouble.
Since English isn’t her native language, she was worried that the speaking section would be the hardest. And she was afraid of only having 15 seconds to prepare her answers for the independent speaking questions…
But she gave it her best and did everything that she could to prepare. She found NoteFull’s speaking and writing templates to be very helpful. And she worked hard to practice them and use them on her test day.
“I think the biggest thing I learned from the program is that “timing is a choice”. You can choose to go over the time limit, or you can choose to finish before. When I practiced my answers, I always finished on time. I never let myself get interrupted in the middle of a sentence. I just gave one example in my speaking independent responses. I also found that using tables with columns and rows really improved my note-taking for the other speaking questions.”
With only 2 weeks to prepare, Soumili was able to transform her skills and go into her test with confidence.
On Their Way
On September 24th, she walked into her test and scored higher than the majority of her peers! With the rest of the students mainly scoring in the mid to high 90s, Soumili was able to get a 112! Including a perfect score of 30 in the writing section. Amazing!
She always had strong writing skills. But NoteFull’s templates helped those skills develop and shine even more.
“With a score of 112, this is going to carry a lot of weight when I apply for graduate programs now. I’m hoping to study Computer Science, and I feel really good about my chances with this TOEFL score.”
Great work, Soumili! You played to your strengths and came a long way in such a short period of time. We here at NoteFull wish you the best in all that you do!Reading: 26, Listening: 29, Speaking: 27, Writing: 30
