Beginning Again

Nermin’s challenge was finding out which TOEFL resource to put her trust in…

She studied using NoteFull for a couple months. And then she went in for her first TOEFL in March. But when she got there, something happened that threw her off.

She met someone before the test who told her that NoteFull’s methods were outdated. That she had been studying useless material…

“I felt very confused, and frankly a little depressed. I didn’t know what to do so I changed strategies, and I ended up not doing as well as I hoped. My reading and speaking scores were lower than what I needed.”

She felt like she couldn’t trust NoteFull. So when she started studying again, she avoided us. But what she soon found would change her mind…

After using other TOEFL prep resources, she discovered that they weren’t as useful as they claimed to be. Although they were experts in the English language, they didn’t know what really worked when it came to the TOEFL.

And so Nermin soon decided to give NoteFull another chance…

Finding Help

She attended a couple online Group Speaking Classes with Joseph. These classes taught her to avoid over-using the templates for Q1 and Q2. Rather than saying, “The first reason is…The second reason is…” she learned to talk about a personal experience. That way her answers sounded more natural. 

The next time she took the TOEFL in May, her speaking score had shot up! But it was still 3 points below where it needed to be. That’s when she chose to sign up for Speaking Reviews.

Mathew listened to her recorded answers and gave her advice in the specific areas she needed to work on. For example, he told her to add conclusions at the end of Q3 and Q4 to connect the reading and listening pieces.

“By the summer I was consistently getting a score of 27 on my speaking responses whenever I took the test! Unfortunately, my reading and writing scores had now dropped. So I registered for a Complete Assessment and a Writing Review. Nayyer told me that my word count was great for the writing, but I was off topic. I realized I needed to focus on the question a little longer so that I fully understood it. Also, my Q1 essay wasn’t connecting the reading and listening passages, which Nayyer helped to identify.”

Although she was learning how to improve in each section, Nermin was getting nervous. She had already passed the FPGEE, but the deadline for her score to expire was coming up fast. If she didn’t pass the TOEFL by November, she was already thinking about making the tough choice to switch careers.

So when she heard that Joseph was offering some Online Group Classes in October, she didn’t wait to sign up…

On Their Way

Nermin went through the first week of Joseph’s classes and studied hard. On October 14th, she went in for her TOEFL and got the exact scores she needed!

Having to think about changing your career path is a heavy and nerve-wracking decision. But thanks to all her hard work, she can now work as a pharmacist here in the US!

If you talk to Nermin, you can instantly tell that she is an incredibly humble woman. She will give all the credit for her success to the NoteFull team. And she will repeat this no matter what you try to say.
