FEBRUARY 2016 – PHARMACY.
Like many students, February’s Student of the Month struggled for years before finally taking down the TOEFL.
Kamil is a pharmacist from Syria who wants to be fully licensed in the United States.
And at first, he thought passing the TOEFL would be no big deal. He spoke English every day as a pharmacy tech. How hard could it be?…
Beginning Again
Kamil’s challenge was…
“It [the TOEFL] wasn’t about English skills only, it was about building my skills for taking the test.”
He was shocked and disappointed by the results of his first TOEFL. His scores were:
Reading: 14, listening: 11, speaking: 23, writing: 22, total: 70
And it wasn’t just the test itself that was hard. The testing center was noisy and distracting thanks to all the other students taking their tests at the same time. He also found it hard to explain to people why he wasn’t able to pass. Unfortunately, most people don’t know the TOEFL…
“My coworkers just didn’t understand why I wasn’t passing. We are in the same position, speak English together, and so it should be easy.”
After his first attempt, Kamil fell into a pattern that a lot of students struggle with. He thought that if he kept taking the test each month that he would eventually pass…
“I didn’t study the details or strategy and kept getting the same scores.”
This can be very dangerous for a lot of students. Repeatedly getting poor results can truly damage your will to keep trying.
At this point, many people had suggested that he try NoteFull. But it wasn’t until he was truly fed up with his situation that he committed to change. He no longer wanted to be just a pharmacy tech. He was done selling himself short…
Finding Help
Kamil started searching online for a solution…
He found NoteFull on YouTube and started watching our videos. Then decided to sign up for the Complete TOEFL Mastery program. It was hard for him to pick up at first. But he was ready to move forward with his career.
Kamil changed his habits and his mindset. He made time to study for over 20 hours a week. And he signed up for Tutoring Sessions as well. As he quickly learned, NoteFull doesn’t just teach skills. It also teaches strategy.
He even stopped listening to music when he was driving. He instead would listen to talk radio to improve his comprehension.
Studying after work and on weekends, Kamil gave up all his old excuses. And it wasn’t long until all his hard work paid off…
On Their Way
When he went in for his next test, Kamil beat his goal speaking score by 2 points. And he got a total score of 98!
He did have some regrets about how he approached his TOEFL studies in the past, however…
“I wasted a lot of years not knowing what to do until I was persuaded to study with NoteFull.” And his advice to his fellow TOEFL students is “not to waste time on other sources other than NoteFull. Wherever you are, you can use the material to listen to or review. It’s really worth it to care about studying. I feel amazing now that I passed!”
