AUGUST 2015 – PHARMACY.
For August’s student of the month, we’re honored to share Irina I.’s story with you!
Irina is an aspiring pharmacist from Russia.
She began her studies in 2011. But this turned out to be the same year she would begin her journey as a mom!
And it would take years of hard work to see the light at the end of the TOEFL tunnel…
Irina had already completed her pharmacy studies in her home country. So her challenge (aside from motherhood!) was that she needed to meet the FPGEC’s strict TOEFL requirements to get her pharmacy license…
Irina took her first TOEFL in May of 2012 and got the following scores:
Reading: 17, Listening: 22, Speaking: 23, Writing: 16
She wasn’t exactly thrilled with her results. But she was determined to make her dream scores a reality. She needed to pass the TOEFL by September 2015. Otherwise, she would have to re-do everything she had done before taking the TOEFL. She would have to start all over again. From square one.
Irina felt that the TOEFL would be almost impossible to pass. She was doubting herself. And she felt frustrated with her results…
“I was getting an average score of 23-24 on Speaking and 20-22 on Writing for 3 years. I could not get my 26 in Speaking and 24 in Writing.”
Not to mention time management was a never-ending battle for her. She had to find balance between her studies and her new life as a mom. This is common for many TOEFL students out there. It’s overwhelming!
And on top of all that, she couldn’t seem to find a study resource that could actually help her…
“I was very disappointed with numerous live TOEFL preparation classes that I attended. Most of the textbooks were so outdated, and were useless, and the classes were quite expensive.”
Until finally, she came across some NoteFull videos on YouTube.
“They caught my eye. I was amazed with straight clear explanations, latest information, and structure.”
Irina had seen all the proof she needed. She had found her TOEFL solution! She then signed up for several of our TOEFL programs:
- 12-step Speaking + Tutoring + Review
- 12-step Writing + Tutoring + Review
- 3-step Reading
- 3-step Listening
- ESL Power
She used ESL Power for the academic side of English. She also read articles and listened to university lectures whenever she could.
Working towards her dream scores took a lot of commitment and sacrifice. Passing the TOEFL often does. But she felt that improving her scores depended on 3 key things…
- “I had a strict study routine. I tried to study every morning from 5 a.m. to 9 a.m. I had my days off, too. My goal was 20-30 hours per week.”
- “I tried to practice all parts of the TOEFL every week, otherwise it was so easy to forget without reviewing.”
- “I also took weekly tutoring with NoteFull. I made my study schedule fill the gaps in my education and knowledge.”
“Tutoring helped me tremendously. I scheduled my tutoring in advance and carefully prepared for each tutoring session, so it kept my study extremely organized. I was guided how to study and encouraged to not give up. After each tutoring I was motivated to move forward.”
It was not an easy 4 years for her. And her deadline was fast approaching. But she finally felt like she was making the progress she needed…
On Their Way
Thanks to her relentless focus, Irina finally got her dream scores! She had powerful programs, a great study schedule, and the right resources. But most importantly, she believed in herself.
“While struggling with this test for years, I thought it would be the last exam in my life. However, after passing TOEFL I feel that everything is possible. I’m looking forward to new challenges.”
Here are Irina’s final words to you:
“Just accept TOEFL as a chance to expand your knowledge. Getting the right score is possible. It is not necessary to be perfect on the test to get a perfect score. Do not give up!”
You’re truly an inspiration, Irina. And we’re honored to be a part of your journey to success!Reading: 25, Listening: 25, Speaking: 26, Writing: 24
