MARCH 2019 – GRADUATE SCHOOL.
Akshayy S. is a hard-working student from Gujarat, India.
With a background in computer engineering, he always had a taste for finance.
In fact, his dream was to become a financial engineer. But unfortunately, that career path isn’t offered by schools in India. So he was forced to study abroad…
Having his eyes set on the US, Akshayy’s challenge was passing the TOEFL to attend school here. And so his TOEFL journey began!
Akshayy started his TOEFL journey late 2018…
He started by looking online for a solution. Following the tips his friends gave him, he searched for NoteFull on YouTube. He learned a lot from our videos, so he decided to go to our website and look through the courses we offer.
Knowing that his test was on February 16th, he signed up for our Complete TOEFL Mastery course on December 31. But he had already signed up to take his GRE on the 30th of January, so he didn’t start studying for the TOEFL until the 31st…
That meant he only had 16 days to study!
Akshayy found vital methods for understanding each section of the TOEFL in our Complete TOEFL Mastery program.
He found our strategies for scoring high in the reading section very helpful. And he learned the type of reading articles to expect on the TOEFL as well.
Our tips on note taking helped him too. He learned how best to organise his thoughts and take quick notes during the test. That way he could spend more time working on his answers.
The most helpful part of the listening section of the program for him was the dictation. He worked hard to practice each audio recording and greatly improved his skills!
When it came to the speaking section of the TOEFL, Akshayy was worried. But thanks to the structure of the answers in the speaking section of the program, he was able to build a strong foundation of speaking skills. Being able to practice that structure on the practice tests in the program was vital to building his confidence.
“Lastly, in the writing section, Notefull’s passage organisation tips were really helpful. The way Joseph taught the usage of punctuations and grammar, it really helped me keep my passage easy to understand, to the point, grammatically correct and still achieve a decent word count. As far as I can remember, I wrote 350 words in the integrated writing and 550 in the second question. Not to forget the extensive practice tests provided. I gave all those tests. Real Confidence Builder!”
16 days later, Akshayy was ready to take his very first TOEFL…
On Their Way
On February 16th, Akshayy came away with the incredible score of 113 on his first try! Not one of his section scores was below 26, which shows a remarkable level of balance in knowledge. His advice to anyone studying for the TOEFL is:
“Study Notefull’s complete mastery course word by word. Every section, every video, every article in the course is useful. Do not skip anything. It’s a sufficient course to get you to your desired score. Do a lot of practice, especially speaking. Other candidates try to be loud in their exams. That is really distracting. So, simulate the exam conditions and do enough practice. Give at least 4-5 mock tests. I gave 11. Your TOEFL exam should look like just another mock test to you. Relax!”
Great job, Akshayy! With scores like these, we know without a doubt you’ll be on the road to your master’s degree in no time. On behalf of the entire NoteFull team: Congrats! 🙂Reading: 29, Listening: 30, Speaking: 26, Writing: 28
