There are many words one can use to describe Gira P. The one that comes up first for us at NoteFull is perseverance.

Gira moved to the United States in 2011, four years after obtaining her Pharmacy degree in India. In March, 2013, she took her first plunge into the world of TOEFL testing, earning a score of 56.

"I then spent the next two and a half years studying by myself, along with some online classes through a a company based in India. I wasn't able to meet any of my goal scores during that time."

More specifically, Gira spent 29 months trying to improve her scores, but she wasn't meeting the targets needed to work as a phamacist in the United States.

In August 2015, she discovered NoteFull and began using the free online resources available. Shortly afterwards, her scores in the Reading and Listening sections rocketed upwards and she was consistently achieving her goal scores for both.

"It was at that point that I realized I needed more help, so I registered for Speaking and Writing programs which also included reviews and tutoring."

Over the last few months of 2015, Gira studied and reviewed the resources in both programs she had registered for, and began tutoring sessions with Nayyer, one of our TOEFL tutors. By January, 2016, she had nailed her goal Writing score! However the last leg of her journey would take the longest.

As the weeks turned to months and the miserably cold weather outside matched her feelings, she began to believe that reaching her Speaking goal score simply wasn't possible.

"Maybe this is a sign that I need to move on with my life,", she told her husband, at the time. "I should have gotten a 26 by now. Maybe it's just not meant to be".

In fact, for several months in late spring and summer, Gira stopped her regular tutoring sessions with Joseph. But, with her husband's encouragement and her resolve hardened once again, she returned to tutoring and embraced some advice Joseph passed on:

He told me to stop taking the test every two weeks, that it was a distraction which prevented me from fully focusing and improving. Then, I remember what day it was: October 21st. I was feeling stressed out and nervous, and Joseph worked on some breathing exercises with me. I remember that after that session I felt a kind of confidence I had never felt before."

Shortly afterwards, Gira took the test and reached her goal score in Writing, Reading, and Listening. In Speaking, she was able to hit what had eluded her on her TWENTY-SIX previous TOEFL attempts and over a period of three and a half years: 26. At the end of it all, here's what she'd like to share with you all:

If there's one thing I learned from this whole experience, it's to never give up, no matter how bad things seem. There's always a path to success if you work hard enough and get the right kind of help. With Joseph, we attacked issues specifically, and in detail. We would do the same exercise over and over during a session, so that I developed good habits. It can seem strange, but have faith in his expertise. He's helped so many students reach their goal scores, so he knows what he's doing."

Now that Gira has climbed Mount TOEFL and stuck her flag at the top, there's no stopping her now. Who knows what new challenges lie ahead of her in the future, but I have a feeling that whatever she faces, she'll make it through to the other side!

Reading: 23, Listening: 23, Speaking: 26, Writing: 27
