June 2016

NoteFull's Student of the Month for June 2016  back to top

Meet Mariane, NoteFull's Student of the Month for June 2016

June is a wonderful month to join the United States. Kentucky, Tennessee, and Arkansas all joined the union as states during the Junes of 1792, 1796, and 1836 respectively. This month we're celebrating Mariane M., a student from Sao Paulo, Brazil that we hope to see in the United States very soon. She's a talented physical therapist. She currently works with neurological patients in their homes in Brazil. Now, she has passed all of her exams, exceeded her TOEFL requirements, and is working on the final steps towards coming to live in the United States.

Like many of students pursuing professional license and certification, Mariane needed a 26 in the Speaking section of the TOEFL to meet the requirements to work in the United States.

"My English was rusty. I had studied English as a kid from ten years old. I stopped studying English when I was sixteen years old. From ages sixteen to thirty, I was totally concentrated on learning French. I was not practicing English too much- only on a few occasions. So, when I first took my TOEFL, I did pretty well in Reading, Listening, and Writing, but I scored only 19 in the Speaking section and the requirement is a 26."

After taking the test several more times, the highest score she had received was a 23, so reached out to NoteFull. She registered with our 3-Step Speaking Mastery program as well as tutoring and Speaking reviews.

"I took a Speaking Test Flash Review with Mathew and received 26-28. Then, I took the TOEFL and I knew the level of 26, but I was so nervous that I only got a 25! Then two later, after working with Nayyer, I got a 26. He helped me a lot!"

"Nayyer helped me to have better fluency. Before my tutoring with Nayyer, my answers had been confusing, going back and forth with my opinions, but Nayyer helped me to be more organized and straight to the point."

In addition to working through her NoteFull program and working with the NoteFull team, Mariane took a class with a local teacher in Brazil, watched English-language movies without subtitles, and changed the languages on all of her electronic devices to English.

Her hard work paid off when she received her final score of 102!

Reading: 24, Listening: 25, Speaking: 26, Writing: 27

Mariane encourages the rest of you not to give up and to trust in the NoteFull system:

"Stick to the templates. When NoteFull gives you a template, practice questions all day using that template."
