NoteFull's Student of the Month for May 2016  back to top

Meet Sara, NoteFull's Student of the Month for May 2016

[Sara is pictured above]

This May, we celebrate the accomplishments of Sara M., who came to the United States from Iran. Like many of our students, Sara needed to take the TOEFL to work as a pharmacist, which means she needed to meet specific requirements in each section of the exam. Before joining NoteFull, Sara had done fairly well in some of the sections, but she wasn't reaching her Speaking and Writing goals. After working with NoteFull, she exceeded the requirements in every section!

Having heard about NoteFull from her friends, she search for us on the internet and was able to participate in the Cyber Monday discount that we offered last year. She registered with New Complete TOEFL Mastery and also ordered Speaking and Writing Flash Reviews.

She approached her self-study program methodically, "One thing that I think people should consider when they're doing a NoteFull program is something that I did myself- it's really stressful, but I recommend it. When one buys a program, you should do it one-by-one. My friend just went through the practice tests, but I don't recommend that. I started doing practices late because I was focusing on the program, trying to finish it really well. The exercises in the lessons were my main study."

As Sara worked through the program, she stayed in touch with the NoteFull team, taking full advantage of the unlimited email support that comes with every self-study program. "I am a very detailed person, so if I would see anything, I would email NoteFull. They were really nice to actually answer all of my questions, my concerns, and everything. I am grateful to NoteFull for answering all of my random questions."

Two of the biggest challenges for any TOEFL student are staying organized and staying motivated. Sara confronted these challenges like a true TOEFL warrior. "I kept a calendar and every day I wrote what I studied and I think that was really helpful. On days that I didn't study, I wrote zero so it be motivational for the next day." She also wrote "I CAN. I WILL. I MUST." on her mirror.

Sara also found social psychologist Amy Cuddy's 2012 TED Talk particularly inspiring: "This my favorite video of all time. It's awesome. This TED Talk has changed my life. You should watch it. It helped me to decreased my stress level dramatically!" You can find this video and other inspirationl material on the NoteFull website here.

Through hard work and tenacious focus, Sara was able to exceed the TOEFL requirements for the FPGEE, earning a total score of 109!

Reading: 25, Listening: 28, Speaking: 29, Writing: 27

Her confidence in her own abilities and in her NoteFull program proved invalubale. Though she was having a bad day on the day on her exam, she soldiered through and did her best, resulting in her very impressive scores. "If someone really studies well and really masters all the skills, there's nothing to worry about. Even if the sky falls down, they can pass the exam."
