NoteFull's Student of the Month for August 2014  back to top

NoteFull is super excited to introduce the next Student of the Month: Walter Alberto Becerra Otoya from Peru!

The TRUTH about taking the TOEFL without preparation:

Walter had been preparing for the TOEFL exam in order to apply for master's degree program in Computer Science. In the beginning, he decided to sit the TOEFL with little preparation and on his first test, he earned the following scores: R: 19, L: 25, S: 24, W: 26. But, he knew he could andmust do better if he really wanted to secure a spot in a top graduate program in his competitive field. His casual approach to the test simply wasn't working for him.

Developing a study plan for optimal results:

When Walter saw his first set of scores, he decided to make a serious change and start studying more strictly.

When he was searching the internet for help, he found NoteFull's videos on YouTube. As he was sitting there, watching the videos, he felt motivated to move forward and he felt 100%TRUST in the knowledge that NoteFull could help. So, he registered and started to study with the following programs:

3-step TOEFL Mastery

1 Speaking Flash Review

With these programs, Walter studied approximately 25 hours per week. In addition, he developed strong study habits to move forward with focus. Some of the important habits Walter learned to adopt are:

ü   Study at a clean desk and sit "in a comfortable chair (not in bed!)".

ü   Make sure you study with "proper illumination".

ü   Study in 50-minute chunks and take 10-minute breaks in between in order to relax and collect your thoughts.

Reviews that light up the path to success:

Walter says that in his reviews, which were crucial to his improvement and success, "the instructors gave me explicit directions on how to improve and what part of the system I should focus on. They helped me with my timing in the speaking section, as well as with the quality of the content (how to make strong examples and show how the examples are connected to your answer - which is the key."

After almost 3 months of hard work, Walter earned an AMAZING 108, with the following breakdowns: R: 25, L: 27, S: 27 W: 29!

In each section, Walter made strong improvements, bringing his score above and beyond his application requirements. He feels "a great deal of relief" now that it's over and even though he feels that he can do even better, he knows without a doubt that studying with purpose, NoteFull strategy, and guidance is the way to go.

Walter's final words for all students taking the TOEFL:

"The process of learning English can be kind of slow and hard sometimes, so you just have to be patient and don't lose your motivation. Don't ever lose the aim on your ultimate goals. Follow NoteFull instructions, study hard, don't forget to email them regularly, build up your confidence and inspire others once you get the score you desire and deserve."
