November

Shabnam, NoteFull's Student of the Month for November 2013  back to top

NoteFull would like to introduce Shabnam Javan from Iran! Shabnam's success story begins 1 1/2 years ago when she moved to New York City to start her new life. Like many of our students, Shabnam was taking the TOEFL in hopes of obtaining professional licensure as a foreign pharmacist. After months of hard work and 7 attempts, she reached her goal!

When Shabnam began studying, her original TOEFL scores were:

R 21, L 18, S 22, and W 22

After studying independently for a short time, she decided that she needed professional guidance. So, after searching the internet, she discovered NoteFull and quickly registered.

The plan of attack

Shabnam registered for NoteFull's complete set of TOEFL programs and received consistent guidance from NoteFull's TOEFL master instructors:

12-step Speaking + Tutoring + Review,

12-step Writing + Tutoring + Review,

3-step Reading,

3-step Listening,

ESL Power,

and 3-week Vocabulary.

As she worked, she made sure to keep in touch with us and let us know how she was doing. She communicated when she felt great and when she was frustrated, a key to success we want you to model.

We all have good days and bad, and we all need guidance from time to time. So, make sure that you use NoteFull as your support just as Shabnam did and you'll find yourself overcoming the TOEFL with confidence and motivation when you need it.

Shabnam crafted a plan of attack with our guidance. She studied approximately 20 hours per week and typically 40 hours when her tests were approaching. To avoid getting burned out from her studies, she made sure to take breaks on the weekend to relax.

Every now and then, she experienced what we all do: a lack of desire to continue on that great but tough road to success. When she would take longer breaks in her studies though, she remembers, "my ability would decline to a lower level and I could feel it."

She realized that her personal goal should be to keep her study schedule consistent and to always study--even if for just one hour, no matter how frustrated she felt, another key to make sure to follow as you walk your own path to TOEFL success.

In the beginning she struggled a lot with fluency. Mental work and habit-breaking was required to allow her to focus and concentrate and develop the fluency in all sections that was necessary for her to pass, especially with the speaking.

With tutoring, reviews, and regular help from the entire NoteFull team--Lauren, Megan, Joseph, and Leah--Shabnam overcame every obstacle holding her back. She shared the following opinion: "if I wanted to study by myself, it was never going to happen."

The guidance of instructors was crucial for her and if you're struggling, it will be for you as well. Stay strong, stay motivated, and stay in touch and . . .

Long awaited success

On September 20th, Shabnam logged onto the ETS site to check her most TOEFL score. Success! Her final scores were:

R 28, L 27, S 26, W 25

She never felt better. In her own words, "an open future is waiting." She added:

"NoteFull is really professional in its field. It knows exactly what the students need to learn and improve. It tells you whatever you need to know--I mean EVERYTHING, you need to know to pass the exam. It motivates you whenever you are down, it's always with you and you never feel loneliness in the difficult path of passing the exam."

She recommends NoteFull to everyone who needs help on the TOEFL. Her final words that she wanted to share with other TOEFL test-takers and words we aim to inspire in all of our students:

"NoteFull is the best program on the planet to be prepared and pass TOEFL. Period."

Way to go, Shabnam! And if you're reading this now, your success is soon to come too.

Examples to learn from

With hard work, Shabnam improved her scores in every section of the TOEFL by 3 to 9 points. One example that we'd like to share with you is the difference she achieved with her clarity and fluency in the speaking before and after her work with NoteFull. You'll notice a tremendous difference in pauses, hesitations, and stuttering.

Before

After

Every section of the TOEFL has key elements that must be mastered to acheive success. Know that you'll learn and are learning each of those with NoteFull. The result will be your success, as long as you stay in touch and stay focused.
