Question 4
Outline
Here are the steps you will pass through as you do question four on the TOEFL test.
1st: you will be given 45 or 50 seconds to read a short passage of about 100 words.
2nd: you will hear a lecture that lasts a little over a minute.
3rd: you will be asked a question about the lecture.
4th: you will be given 30 seconds to prepare your response.
5th: you will then have 60 seconds to record your response.
6th: the computer will save your response, giving you a little break before the next speaking question.
Don't give yourself any extra time the first time you practice this question. If you follow the instructions, you'll become more familiar and comfortable with the test and that has an effect on your score.

Illusion of Transparency
In social situations, people tend to overestimate the degree to which those around them can perceive their internal feelings and emotions. They often feel that they are displaying their positive and negative feelings more clearly and perceptibly to the people around them than they actually are. This is called the illusion of transparency. When this occurs, people believe that they are clearly expressing their emotional and mental states to others, but in fact, they have an inflated perception of the ability of others to understand exactly what they are feeling.
Question: Explain the concept of Illusion of Transparency using the example discussed in the lecture.
Preparation time: 30 seconds
